November 15 1999 transit of Mercury across the Sun (imaged 21:34 UTC).

The mottled appearance of the sun is due to clouds. I was shooting through moderate cloud cover at this point in the event. Note that the sun was also only about 13 degrees above the horizon, with attendant seeing problems. I'm lucky I got this good an image!

Scope: 8" f10 LX200, prime focus, with 3" off axis solar filter, operating at 2000mm f/l.

Camera: PC23C video camera from Super Circuits, modified by me to prevent video gain from rising on small bright targets.

Capture device: ATI All In Wonder Pro video card at 640 by 480 resolution

Seeing was moderately awful, with the sun only 11 degrees off the horizon at the start of the event.
