Piccolo Piccoboard Mugshots page

For what it's worth, I have put together a page of Piccoboard "Mugshots" so you can determine what type you have. Note that all Piccoboards are very similar to each other. The main differences as the Piccoboard evolved are:

Original Piccoboard (marked "9905" in foil)
Originally used separate logic and BEC regulators and a Tokin CG-L35 gyro (marked 5AB1 or 5AB0). Later on, the separate logic regulator was removed and the BEC output was jumpered to the logic. Somewhere later, I believe the now discontinued CG-L35 5V gyro was replaced by the CG-L33 3V gyro (marked 3AB0).

Piccoboard Plus
Added pins for the optional heading hold module and added circuitry to reduce the gyro Vcc to 3V. Still using the CG-L33 3V gyro (marked 3AB0). Latest boards have been spotted with the CG-L43 gyro, which is supposed to be more rugged.

Piccoboard Plus sold as a standard Piccoboard
For an undetermined amount of time, Ikarus has been selling Piccoboard Plus boards with the heading hold modure pins cut off as standard Piccoboards. This is apparantly because the Plus board is designed for the 3V CG-L33 gyro and it was easier to do it that way than to adapt the older Piccoboard design to the newer 3V gyro.

Piccoboard Plus (and Pro), later version
This version of the Piccoboard Plus (and Pro) has provisions in foil for both BEC regulators instead of stacking them like the original Piccoboard Pro did. It also uses the new Tokin CG-L43 gyro.

Piccoboard Pro
Upgraded output FETs to IRF7456 and added a second BEC regulator soldered in parallel to the existing one. This upgrades the output current rating to 10A on main motor output and probably 1600 mA on the BEC output. First boards seen are still using the CG-L33 3V gyro (marked 3AB0). However it is assumed that the later boards will also use the CG-L43 gyro.

Piccoboard parts identification
Piccoboard Plus shown. (All board types are similar.)
Standard Piccoboard, original (9904) version, front
Note that on later boards, there is a wire jumper
between the two yellowish rectangular capacitors.
Standard Piccoboard, original (9904) version, rear
Note that on later boards, the small three legged device
(5V regulator) to the right of the yellow capacitor is omitted.
Piccoboard Plus, front
Note the addition of the four pins for the heading hold module above the mix pot. This board is also sold as a standard Piccoboard by omitting or cutting off the heading hold pins.
Piccoboard Plus, rear
Piccoboard Plus, later version, front
Note the addition of the four pins for the heading hold module above the mix pot. This board is also sold as a standard Piccoboard by omitting or cutting off the heading hold pins. It is also sold as a Piccoboard Pro by adding a second BEC regulator on the pads provided (unused in this photo) and by changing the output FETs to IRF7456.
Piccoboard Plus, rear
Piccoboard Pro, original version, front
Output FETs upgraded from IRF7413 to IRF7456
Piccoboard Pro, original version, rear
BEC regulator (black device above "picoboard" legend
upgraded by stacking a second device on top of the first.
