Comet Hale-Bopp.

Imaged 3/12/97 at approximately 1000 UTC from Rochester Hills, MI under moderately light polluted skies. Imaged indoors, through an open window from a second floor bedroom.

Camera: CWIP-S CCD integrating camera (un-cooled). 25mm f1.8 lens, tripod mounted, tracking via CWIP "synthetic clock drive" (image shift during exposure). Approximately 20 second exposure.

Processed with SkyPro (now CCDSoft) to stretch the contrast and show the tail to best advantage. No sharpening was applied.

The small object below the head of the comet is an artifact of the camera caused by imager saturation due to the very bright head.
